Rare Bulgaria Mixed Case

Rare Bulgaria Mixed Case

  • Pét-Nat Funky Mavrud, 2019, Georgiev/Milkov, Thracian Valley

As funky as it gets in Bulgaria – a very lightly blushed bubbly made by 100% Mavrud (the signature indigenous Bulgarian red grape variety) from 40 year old vineyards. Manual grape picking and sorting, natural wiled fermentation, no yeast added, no sulphites. Cloudy appearance with pronounced fruit aromas of raspberries, strawberries and fresh herbs. Lightly sparkling, elegant, with great freshness, light to medium bodied with intense notes of red fruits and fresh long finish. Enjoy as an aperitif or with salads, shellfish or light Asian dishes. (2900 bottles made only)

  • Trois Visages Blanc de Noir, 2019, Haralambievi Family Winery, Danube Plain

Here Haralambievi present the three faces of the classic grape variety Pinot Noir, grown in the distinctive terroir at three of their vineyards. In the Blanc de Noir they introduce us “the white face” of the grape grown in Kalugeritsa single vineyard located on the left bank of river Vit next to the village of Sadovets. Pale straw coloured, with intense tropical fruit notes of pineapple and melon elegantly combined with hints of mint and violets, pronounced tropical and citrus notes. Great with seafood, white meats or vegetarian dishes. (2500 bottles made only)

  • Evmolpia Unfiltered Rosé, 2019, Tsarev Brod Winery, Black Sea Coast

A jazzy experiment made from 100% Evmolpia – an indigenous red Bulgarian grape variety created in 1991 by crossing of Merlot and Mavrud from a single vineyard in Northeast Black Sea region.  Aged on its lees for five months and bottled unfiltered at the end of March 2020. Bright pink colour with zippy notes of white cherry, black pepper and light caramel. Refreshing light body with mint and sour cherry character and extremely pleasant fruity finish. Drink on its own or with fresh fruit salads or fresh cheeses or fruits. Shake (or not) before opening and pouring it! (700 bottles made only)

  • Orange Keratsuda, 2019, Libera Estate, Struma Valley

100% Keratsuda - indigenous Bulgarian white grape variety native to Struma Valley with very limited vineyards. Fermentation with the grape skins for about 45 days, no oak ageing and no filtration. Dark gold with amber hues and typical Keratsuda aromas of pear, apricot and white flowers. Very fresh with pronounced tannins coming from the skin contact balanced with refreshing acidity. Medium bodied, intense and moreish, with very good length at the finish. Lovely along Asian cuisine, roast game birds or white meat. (1501 bottles made only)

  • Organic & Natural Rubin & Broad Leaved Melnik “Mitra”, 2018, Orbelus Winery, Struma Valley

A blend of 67% Rubin and 33% Broad Leaved Melnik the concept of Mitra is to be a wine in full harmony with the nature. The grapes are naturally and organically grown, local yeast that is naturally present in the vineyard is used, no sulphites have been added, no filtration. The wine is named after the lady that is in charge of the team that looks after the vineyards all year round. Dark purple with ruby hues, intense and earthy,  medium to full bodied, complex and harmonious, very juicy with pronounced notes of dried herbs, morello cherries, sweet tobacco and dark chocolate. Combine with venison, wild boar, hare or beef dishes. (2000 bottles made only)

  • Raspberry Wine, 2019, Malini, Thracian Valley

Malini is a small, honest, craft project, created by two young Bulgarian winemakers and friends – Desislava Hitova and Hristo Valchanov. Their raspberry wine is made from organic raspberries that undergo controlled alcohol fermentation with organic yeast. The scent is explosive, with a captivating purity of freshly picked raspberries. The taste has a juicy length and a good balance between sweetness and freshness, as with the fruit itself. An alcoholic raspberry explosion! Enjoy on its own or topped up with sparkling wine. 1470 bottles made only.
