The Old Cellar is teaming up with Georgi Radev, the renowned Bulgarian bartender and spirits expert, who will present a selection of three distinctive Bulgarian rakias as you taste, shake and stir along.

 

You will have the exclusive opportunity to tutor taste the three rakias and also to make three luscious cocktails, personally created by Georgi himself and experience his new take on Bulgaria’s most traditional spirit for the first time. And to add to all this, we’ve invited Stamen Iliev from Black Sea Gold Distillery, Robert Borisov from Clemans Distillery and Svetlin Mirchev from RakiaSHOP who will give you a sneak peek of how their rakias are made and provide tasting notes and food pairing recommendations.

 

The mixed case includes the following 3 rakias:

Burgas 63 Special Selection Rakia by Black Sea Gold Distillery

The Alchemist Muscat Ottonel, Pamid & Gewürztraminer rakia by Clemans Distillery

Ednā Wine Rakia by RakiaSHOP

and we’ll also send you a Zoom link on the day before the event to join us on Wednesday 31st at 7pm.

 

Taste along, meet Georgi and the producers and get all your questions answered. Alternatively, if you cannot tune in for the live presentation, we’ll send you a link to the video recording so you can open the rakias, watch the presentation and taste and shake alongside in your own time. 

 

Please hurry up and order your mixed case by 12pm on Monday 29th March in order to get your rakias delivered in time for the event.

 

Below are the cocktail recipes so that you can source your ingredients and make them alongside Georgi:

 

Sour 63

50 ml Burgas 63 Rakia

1 tbsp honey

20 ml lemon

2 ml rose water

2 tbsp egg

Dry shake everything and shake again with ice. Fine strain over chilled martini glass without ice. Put 2 dashes of Peychaud bitters on the top.

 

Edna Bay

50 ml Edna Rakia

25 ml AXL Misket Chateau Copsa

1 tbsp agave surup

2 bay leafs

Put everything in mixing glass and stir for a minute to infuse the bay leaf.

Add ice and stir again. Strain over chilled martini glass. Squeeze lemon zest  on the top and discard.

 

Bulgarian Summer

50 ml The Alchemist Rakia

3 slices of watermelon

8 mint leafs

15 ml elderflower

1 tbsp honey

10 ml lemon

Muddle and shake and fine strain in martini glass. Garnish with watermelon slice, mint and dehydrated flower.
