Rubin Brestovitsa Single Vineyard 2020, Georgiev/Milkov, Thracian Valley
2110 bottles made only by these two dynamic young winemakers from 40 year old vineyards of the Bulgarian local grape Rubin (a crossing between Syrah and Nebbiolo), manually picked, fermented and aged for 10 months in 40% Bulgarian and 60% French oak barrels. Deep dark ruby with pronounced raspberry and black cherry aromas, medium to full bodied with intense notes of dark chocolate, spices, vanilla and lovely long elegant finish. Great with your beef, venison, game or Iberico pork.
Pitos Reserve 2013, Dragomir Winery, Thracian Valley
A blend of Rubin, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the glorious in Bulgaria 2013 vintage from one of the most boutique wineries in Bulgaria. Aged for 24 months in 65% new French oak barrels and presently drinking at its peak, elegant and juicy, with very well integrated tannins. Dense terracotta-garnet red with notes of truffles, black olives, leather and blueberries and noble finish. Enjoy alongside red meat and hard mature cheeses.
Rumelia Mavrud Reserve 2018, Rumelia Winery, Thracian Valley
A 100% Mavrud – the signature Bulgarian local variety, made by one of the best specialist wineries for this grape. Aged for 36 months in 50% new and 50% used Bulgarian oak barrels. Deep dark purple coloured, with great flavour concentration, loads of black and red fruit, oaky vanilla notes, smoke and leather, perfect acidity and prominent ripe tannins with a very long subtle finish. Again perfect for your roast beef, steaks and BBQ.
Hotovo Single Vineyard Melnik Blend 2020, Libera Estate, Struma Valley
A blend of the 3 clones of the signature indigenous red grape variety of Struma Valley - Melnik, which was also a favourite of Winston Churchill back in the days - 32% Melnik 55, 32% Broad Leaved Melnik Vine and 32% Melnik 82. Deep crimson ruby colour with intense aromas of black cherries, plums and spices. Medium to full bodied, rich, opulent and savoury, expressive notes of black and red stone fruits, herbs and light vanilla on the background, very intense and well balanced. Screams for red meat, game or cep mushrooms dishes.
Grande Cuvée 2017, Domaine Bessa Valley, Thracian Valley
The top cuvée of the winery, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Lively deep garnet colour, the nose is dominated by black and red berries, plums and nuts, elegantly combined with the oak. Powerful, complex and spicy, medium to full bodied with pronounced notes of blackberries, forest fruits and dark chocolate, perfectly balanced with the velvety tannins. Drink alongside grilled red meat, pork, wild boar.
Cabernet Franc Private Reserve 2013, Bratanov Family Winery, Sakar Mountain
One of the signature reds of this prominent family owned and run Bulgarian winery, again from the glorious in Bulgaria 2013 vintage. Opaque coloured with pronounced nose of dark chocolate, cedar and the typical for the variety green peppers. Medium to full bodied with very concentrated dark berry fruit notes, allspice/cayenne and even hints of nutmeg and further earthy/herbal nuances. Exceptionally well balanced and complex Cabernet Franc that wil combine very well with duck, lamb or veal dishes.
