Explore the different faces and versatility of the signature Bulgarian indigenous red grape variety Mavrud through the following 3 wines that were all grown and made in Thracian Valley but are so different:

Pet Nat Funky Mavrud Rosé 2021, Georgiev/Milkov, Thracian Valley, Bulgaria

A naturally sparkling blushed rosé made by the ancient Pétillant Naturel method from grapes of a 40 year old Mavrud vineyard. Wild fermented, with cloudy appearance and pronounced aromas of raspberries, strawberries and fresh herbs. Lightly sparkling, very elegant on the palate, with great freshness and intense notes of red and white fruits. Enjoy as an aperitif or with salads, shellfish or light Asian dishes. 4500 bottles made only!

Merul Mavrud 2018, Rumelia Winery, Thracian Valley, Bulgaria

A 100% Mavrud from Rumelia winery - one of the most prominent specialist wineries for this grape variety. Hand-picked and stainless steel tank fermented with no oak ageing. Violet red coloured, balanced and subtle, bursting with black forest fruits, cherries and liquorice notes, perfect acidity and prominent ripeness. Great with BBQ dishes, lamb or duck.

Mavrud Novi Izvor Single Vineyard 2021, Georgiev/Milkov, Thracian Valley, Bulgaria

A gem of a red wine by the dynamic duo of Petar Georgiev and Radostin Milkov from a great terroir near the village of Novi Izvor in the region of Assenovgrad, the birthplace of the grape variety. Fermented with wild yeast in small tanks and aged for 10 months in Bulgarian and French oak barrels. Deep ruby colour, medium to full bodied with great balance, well integrated ripe tannins and intense notes of blueberries, redcurrants, dried herbs, cedar and spices. Ideal accompaniment to beef, venison, game and Iberico pork. 4100 bottles made only, all hand numbered by the two winemakers.
