Zareh’s Seasonal Favourites 4 Bottle Mixed Case

£79.80

Zareh Mesrobyan is one of the best Bulgarian sommeliers nowadays, working in London for many years and a good friend of ours, here are his seasonal reccommendations:

Pet Nat Riesling Extra Brut 2020, Tsarev Brod Winery, Danube Plain, Bulgaria

As Pet-Nats are gaining familiarity and popularity amongst the wine public this example from Bulgaria shows the crisp and refreshing character of Riesling. Coming from the cooler Danube Plain region the wine gives us attractive apple and citrus notes, fine and persistent mousse and a mouth watering finish. Whether you have it as an aperitif or throughout your meal the enjoyment of every sip is guaranteed.

Orange Keratsuda 2020, Libera Estate, Struma Valley, Bulgaria

Another grape variety native to Bulgaria, this expression of Keratsuda uses 45 days of skin contact to showcase pronounced tannins balanced with refreshing acidity. With typical flavours of stone fruit and white flowers this wine is truly versatile when comes to food pairing – have it with your Christmas turkey or Asian food – the result will delight you.

Mavrud “Novi Izvor” 2019, Georgiev/Milkov, Thracian Valley, Bulgaria

After years of international experience Petar Georgiev & Radostin Milkov returned to Bulgaria for a venture showcasing local varieties. Coming from a 40 year old vineyard near the village of Novi Izvor this wine showcases the purity of red and dark fruit combined with dried herbs and spices. A refined and elegant expression of the variety this Mavrud has well integrated tannins and a long finish.
Pair perfectly not only with venison and rich meat dishes, but also with a range of hard cheeses.

Raketa Apricot Rakia, Isperih Distillery, Danube Plain, Bulgaria

Made from carefully selected apricots in the regions of Isperih this rakia is characterised with intense aromas of apricots and a soft palate. In Bulgaria the tradition is to have it as an aperitif, but for best results try it with sheep’s cheese, toasted bread and dried mushrooms.
